Committee details

Cabinet

Purpose of committee

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council operates under executive arrangements, also known as the ‘Leader and Cabinet’ model. The Full Council elects the Leader and the Leader appoints their Cabinet from amongst the members of the Council.

The Cabinet is responsible for all executive functions within the budget and framework adopted by the Council. The remit of the Cabinet is extensive and includes most matters which are not reserved to Full Council or expressly delegated to other bodies (for example: Planning, Licensing, Constitutional and Auditory matters).

Members of the public may attend to observe or speak on an item on the agenda (by giving prior notice) at any meeting of the Cabinet unless confidential information is being discussed. See the Attending Meetings page for details.

The Leader and Members of the Cabinet, known as Portfolio Holders, also have specific responsibilities on a day-to-day basis, details of which are set out on their pages:

·        Leader of the Council

·        Portfolio Holder for Communities and Wellbeing

·        Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Tourism

·        Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Communication

·        Portfolio Holder for Finance and Governance

·        Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transportation

·        Portfolio Holder for Sustainability
