To consider and note details on the use of covert surveillance under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. 

Decision:

RESOLVED – That the proposed revisions to the Covert Surveillance and Access to Communications Data Policy and Guidance Notes (‘the policy’) as set out at Appendix A be approved.

Reasons for the decision:

To demonstrate the Council’s compliance with legislation.

Alternative options considered:

Do nothing – This is not an option as the Council is required by the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and associated Codes of Practice to have a Policy in place.
