Transport and environment after the COVID lockdown

We the undersigned petition Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to recognise the improved air quality and public living space for town users during the lockdown period due to the reduction in road traffic. The council should then act to ensure this is not lost when the lockdown begins to lift. The council should look to policies such as temporary cycle lanes and further pedestrianised areas, to ensure the town does not return to congestion and raised pollution levels. The council can make use of the examples provided by local authorities Brighton, and Barnes, and Milan (Italy). We do not want a return to the "old normal".

Improved air quality leads to improved health for residents - both physical and mental.
The council has declared a climate emergency, and so is aware of the need to reduce pollution and emissions by private traffic.
