PERSONAL INFORMATION

 

Professional background: Bill was a Ministerial Policy Adviser before he retired in 2005. His last four posts - spanning 13 of his 34-year career related to: local and regional transport planning for SE England (2004-05); delivery of the national road safety strategy and its targets (2000-04); various local transport issues in London, including green travel and city car clubs (1998-2000); and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (1992-98) for which he was seconded to Union Railways Ltd, the company that helped Ministers to decide the route, and then get Parliament's approval, for what we now call HS1.

 

Interests: Local fund-raising for good causes including Guide Dogs for the Blind and Tunbridge Wells Mental Health Resource. Town twinning events linked to Wiesbaden and Lambersart. The Royal Tunbridge Wells Probus Club (currently President),  enjoying the countryside and watching his grandchildren grow up. And, having been born near Highbury, he is proud to be a life-long Arsenal supporter.
